Enfield is located on the
Massachusetts and Connecticut border and is the largest city
on the Connecticut River. Nestled between two major
employment centers, Enfield is 18 miles north of Hartford
and eight miles south of Springfield. The town is also at
the heart of New England's “Knowledge Corridor,” and enjoys
proximity to one of the country's richest concentration of
colleges and universities.
The town is 33.8 square miles and has a population of
approximately 45,250 people.
Settled in 1679, Enfield was best known for its gunpowder
and carpet manufacturing industries, as well as its historic
Shaker Village. Today it is a regional hub for retail,
manufacturing and service businesses and is the North
American home of LEGO Systems, the town's largest employer.
Other international companies, including TRUMPF, Konica,
HSBC Equator Banks and ABB, have subsidiaries and operations
in the area and appreciate the region's central location for
distribution and suppliers.
Enfield also boasts the benefits of a relatively low cost of
living, competitive labor costs, an educated and stable
workforce, a friendly corporate-tax structure and a unique
mix of cultural diversity and traditional New England
character—all of which make it an attractive destination for
business.
